1 Samuel 2:1-11

So often we find ourselves on the side of unanswered prayer, looking across a vast and open gulf that seemingly separates us from that which we so earnestly seek God for; beholding by faith those things that we have yet to behold by sight.  So long it seems we’ve spent in prayer and have yet to see an answer; we join with those souls who cry out from beneath the altar, how long, O Lord, how long!!

Yet Hannah was one such woman who travailed in prayer and lived to see the answer of that which she sought God for, her barren womb being opened.  Hannah’s tears of sorrow were turned to tears of joy, yet her tears of joy were on account of her tears of sorrow.  Before Hannah prayed the prayer of thanksgiving she first prayed the prayer of anguish.  To all who labour in anguished prayer, hold fast, the prayer of thanksgiving is at hand!!

Luke 8:7

Never in the history of mankind have we ever been able to achieve more in in a single 24 hour day than we do in the age in which we live.  What previous generations would have taken a week to accomplish, we can accomplish in mere hours.  Yet, though man has much time free, he has no time free, for the time he would have free he fills with the pursuit of obtaining more.  With the more come much anxiety!!

Anxiety is a foe of any man but in particular it is a foe of the Christian which if embraced will render one’s life unfruitful and barren!  This sermon looks at the parable of the sower and in particular the application of the parable as it relates the peril of anxiety.  A strong exhortation is given via a very practical message that we as Christians might break through in the area of faith and prayer to lay hold on the peace of God in the midst of the temptation to worry.

Acts 7:17-34

Whilst there are many wonderful portions of Scripture in God’s holy Word, among the greatest are those that relate to God’s supernatural working in the lives of natural men!!  Our wonderful God takes that which the world considers mighty and noble and reduces it to powder, that from that place of nothingness, hopelessness and despair, He might perform a work to the glory of His holy name!

This sermon looks at a perfect example of the above, Moses, a man were told who was learned in all the wisdom of Egypt, mighty in words and deeds.  Yet God brought this man into the wilderness for 40 years so that he might prepare him for service!  The God who calls, is able to perform, not according to man’s strength, but according to His might power!!
